Kindergarten JFK and Parmenter
Kindergarten has been having a blast exploring their voices and instruments! Students have also been discovering that the beat is everywhere! In this activity, students used flashlights to create a light show. Students were asked to demonstrate the beat using flashlights. Enjoy!

2nd Grade JFK
"Skin and Bones" is a traditional song I can use at almost every grade level. In second grade we explored triple meter by adding different percussion instruments to add texture to our piece. Some were used on the micro beat, some on the macro beat, some played the rhythm and some were used as sound effects.

3rd Grade JFK
As 3rd Graders learned about the Planets and composer, Gustav Holst, they also learned about becoming composers themselves! Students created their own planets and composed their own music to accompany their planets. At the end, they performed their music and classmates had to guess which planet was theirs. Students loved exploring all the instruments in the music room! I wish I could have taken videos of them all but my phone only has so much storage! Hopefully, you'll still enjoy the pictures!

Students at JFK and Parmenter have been loving their recorders! Right now we're learning our first two notes B and A and learning practice and reading skills so we'll be ready to learn songs on our own in January! Get ready! Recorders come home then! Check out these students reading their music on their own without my help!
5th Grade Chorus JFK and Parmenter
Here is my Parmenter 5th grade chorus singing a very appropriate song for Halloween, "Ghost of John." Students decided how they wanted the expression to look, dynamics to sound, and how they wanted to split up and perform it as a round. I think their ideas really came together!
Here is my JFK 5th grade chorus counting the rhythm for their round, "Hotaru Koi" which they are also performing in general music class on the recorder and ukulele. So proud to see them looking at their music and really trying to follow along with the rhythm. Looks like they'll be ready for middle school music!
