April to May 2017!

April Culture of the Month
We could have gone a lot longer in India. Unfortunately, April just felt too short! We watched some pretty cool videos and made a lot of connections to what we're learning in the US and what students learn in India. We also learned a children's song from Bengal, India called "Ahg-doom, Bahg-doom." Next year I'll have to remember to take a video! Below is a very talented drummer from JFK who specializes in music from India. Make sure you check out this amazing 4th grader!

May Culture of the Month
This month we are learning about music from Africa. While it would be impossible to learn about all the music from such a large continent we will get a glimpse into some of Africa's music. Already we watched a short clip on music in Baro, Guinea, West Africa. It was really neat to hear the students talk about what they noticed and how it compares to music and life here in America.
Here is an example of  West African Drumming!

Due to a short month, I will be combining Celebrity Singers from April with May. Stay tuned!
